Position Title: Bus Driver Associate

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students who have behavioral, emotional, learning, and/or physical disabilities, highly desirable.

  • Good communication and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Must clear criminal and child abuse background checks.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, training commensurate with position desired.

  • Preferred experience in transportation services, as an educational associate or other related experience supportive of student needs.

Reports to: Transportation Supervisor

Position Goal: To provide physical and behavioral support to students to and from attendance centers in the safest and most efficient manner.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Interacts positively with staff and students.

  • Displays a positive attitude.

  • Works well with the bus driver and transportation team.

  • Responds appropriately to, and acts on, constructive feedback.

Performance Skills:

  • Demonstrates initiative.

  • Accepts and follows bus driver direction, seeking clarification as needed.

  • Responds to emergency situations in accordance with school district procedures.

  • Supervises and maintains order and control according to school district policy.

  • Provides effective supervision.

  • Performs duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Attendance:

  • Demonstrates punctuality and regular attendance

Professional Behavior:

  • Adheres to school and district policy and procedures.

  • Completes essential in-service training (e.g. blood borne pathogens, Chapter 103, etc.) and utilizes those procedures during the course of work.

  • Focuses on all assigned tasks while on duty.

  • Attends all meetings called by the supervisor of transportation.

  • Maintains confidentiality and communicates needs/concerns with supervisor.

  • Maintains appropriate appearance and attire for the school environment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervising teacher or building principal.

Terms of Employment: Wage and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, operating a school bus and assisting students with bus evacuation.

Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases. Driving in various weather conditions.
