GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Join a professional management team responsible for general maintenance of the Main Facility.

The Cleaning section performs many vital tasks throughout the Museum, including but not limited to cleaning galleries and office spaces, supporting special exhibitions, and ongoing construction activity . You will provide hands-on leadership and supervision of union personnel, with an emphasis on clear communication, and high-level performance. You will lead through presence, communication, and accountability.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Manage 12am - 8am Custodial Shift including planning, assigning tasks and supervising daily operations.

• Provide managerial coverage on weekends for the Buildings Department on a rotating schedule.

• Conduct routine inspections of galleries, offices, public spaces, and storage areas to ensure Museum cleaning standards are achieved.

• Supervise and hold bargaining union employees accountable for attendance, safety guidelines, and work quality .

• Prepare employee documentation including inspections, counseling, performance evaluations, attendance records, and disciplinary documentation.

• Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to prepare reports, maintain records, analyze operational data, and communicate with management.

• Coordinate period floor care, project work, special exhibitions, and event support

• Monitor inventory, equipment maintenance, and supply usage.

• Train employees in proper cleaning procedures, floor care methods, and safe operation of commercial custodial equipment

• Respond to operational issues independently and make sound decisions during overnight operations.

• Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• BA/BS Degree preferred, High School Diploma or GED Required

• 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience in institutional or commercial cleaning

• Demonstrated ability to lead unionized staff with professionalism, fairness, and consistency

• Demonstrated knowledge of institutional cleaning methods, floor care systems, and equipment

• Ability to independently supervise cleaning programs

• Proficient Use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel

• OSHA knowledge preferred

COMPENSATION RANGE:

• Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 / Annually

Location Requirements

At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
