Job Description

My client is looking a substation engineer that is responsible managing all assigned substation projects from early-stage development through construction and commissioning, this role partners closely with the Early-Stage Project Manager and Development Group to define engineering scope and requirements. The position provides technical oversight, due diligence, and training for external Engineers of Record (EORs), ensuring full compliance with interconnection agreements, project specifications, site-specific requirements, and industry standards such as IEEE, NESC, and ASCE. It involves sourcing and managing engineering consultants through the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), including developing scopes of work, securing bids, and awarding contracts, while also coordinating with stakeholders to secure sites, permits, and required data for successful project execution. The role supports competitive sourcing of geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services, collaborates with estimating teams on scope assumptions, and manages long-lead material orders to mitigate cost and schedule risks. Additionally, it ensures alignment with transmission requirements through review of interconnection studies and agreements, maintains regular communication with transmission owners/ISOs, and represents Engineering & Construction (E&C) interests through project updates, risk mitigation, and stakeholder presentations. The position also contributes to estimating improvements, supports commissioning activities, assists with regulatory and legal processes, and works with OEM partners to enhance designs in alignment with company standards, all while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. This position pays $50-65/hour.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.

 • 7+ years' experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is highly preferred.

 • Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience (not a must have/HUGE PLUS)

  ○ Leadership/team leading

  ○ Handling 10-17 projects at a time (not working all simultaneously)

   - 100,000-1 million in terms of budget

    □ Substation focus on P&C side or on the physical side but ability to adapt top other side. (one of the other and then manage the other side)

    □ EOR is doing drawings, read and understand the drawings, ability to problem solve and go solve a problem

3-5 projects active at a time
