Bard College seeks anAssistant Men’s Volleyball Coachto join the Athletics department. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach, and also to the Director of Athletics. The purpose of the position is to support the College’s Intercollegiate Program with the intention of maintaining the program within the guidelines of the NCAA Division III and additional conference affiliations.

About Bard:

Bard College’s main campus is in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., with 1,900 undergraduate students; the College also includes multiple graduate programs. The 1,000-acre campus sits along the Hudson River and offers the Fisher Performing Arts Center, and Hessel Museum of Art, and is the home of the Bard Prison Initiative, the largest college-degree-granting prison education program in the U.S. The Bard Network also includes several Bard High School Early Colleges across the country as well as international campuses and partnerships. Bard College is a private institution working in the public interest. Bard faculty and staff lead their students by example, building upon the existing network of boundary-breaking programs focused on rethinking who can and should be included in a liberal arts education.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with the Head Coach regarding daily practice plans and training assignments

  • Communicate with the Head Coach regarding evaluations of student-athletes and assist with the implementation of necessary strategies to maintain the program in a competitive manner

  • Be capable of solely running practice in the event the Head Coach is unavailable due to illness or personal emergency.

  • Prepare team for competitions in regard to uniform inventory, sports medicine items, and other necessary team travel items

  • Oversee and maintain equipment inventory in collaboration with the Head Coach and/or Team Manager

  • Assist Head Coach in areas of competition plans, recruitment of prospective student athletes, scouting, fundraising, team travel operations, and academic monitoring

  • Be responsible for organizing relevant documentation, e.g., opponents’ schedules, rosters and scouting reports

  • Display commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and ethical conduct as per the NCAA Constitution and which are consistent with Bard College’s educational mission and goals.

  • Adhere to additional policies and procedures contained in the Bard College Coaches’ Handbook

Requirements:

  • Experience as a player or coach is highly recommended

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification will be required upon hire

  • Computer skills; recruiting capabilities; leadership, role modeling, organizational, and interpersonal skills are all huge plusses!

  • Ability to work in a team environment with diverse populations of students, staff, faculty and alumni/ae a must

Compensation:$17,500 annually

This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
