Full job description

This position is located in the Cobb County PARKS Department, at the Civic Center (548 South Marietta Pkwy, SE, Marietta, GA 30060)

This position is responsible for the upkeep and routine maintenance of the Civic Center. Performs a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; and removes snow and ice, etc.

Performs maintenance and construction tasks for various parks and facilities: resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields and courts; paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairs and assembles fences and playground equipment; builds sets and staging, shelves and other items; and performs light plumbing, electrical, masonry and carpentry repairs, etc.

Performs general custodial duties at various parks and facilities: cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas; vacuums carpets; hoses decks; scrubs and waxes floors; dusts; washes windows; empties trash; and sets ups and tears down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events.

Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: gathers supplies and equipment to complete work assignments; transports supplies to and from work site; initiates orders for materials and equipment needed; and maintains related documentation.

Operates or uses a County vehicle, and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments such as lawn mower, weedeater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheel barrel, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, back hoes, and other power or motorized equipment.

Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in parks maintenance, landscaping or related field.Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
