We are seeking an inspirational, patient-centered nurse leader to serve as Director of Surgical & Procedural Services at SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital, a 58-bed community hospital serving rural southern Wisconsin.

This leader will provide strategic and operational oversight for a diverse portfolio of procedural services, including the Operating Room, Surgical Center, PACU, Endoscopy, Sterile Processing, Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, and Anesthesia. Key responsibilities include leading day-to-day operations, developing and executing strategy, ensuring responsible fiscal stewardship, optimizing resources and workflows, and advancing evidence-based practices that support high reliability, exceptional quality, and patient safety.

We are looking for a leader who understands that strong performance begins with strong relationships. Successful candidates will demonstrate a history of building collaborative, cross-functional partnerships, communicating effectively across disciplines, and navigating difficult conversations with confidence, professionalism, and respect. This individual will be skilled in coaching and developing leaders and teams, engaging high performers, creating accountability, and fostering a culture where people feel valued and empowered to achieve excellence.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in Lean methodology, process improvement, project management, operational efficiency, and the use of quality and patient safety metrics to drive meaningful improvement. Previous leadership experience within surgical and procedural services is preferred. Above all, we are seeking a leader who leads with humility, has a visible presence, builds trust, embraces change, and inspires others around a shared commitment to exceptional patient care.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops departmental goals and objectives consistent with medical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements of the health care delivery system.

  • Directs clinical activities, including patient assessment, care plan development, service level determination, patient visits, and complaint management.

  • Plans, organizes and directs all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating and continuing education initiatives.

  • Prepares and monitors budget(s) and ensures that assigned nursing area operates within allocated funds. Coordinates and directs internal and externally-driven audits.

  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Master's degree in nursing or related field

Experience

  • Three years' registered nurse experience, with one year in direct people management/leadership

Required Professional License and/or Certifications

  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)

  • Registered Nurse (RN) Issued by Compact State or Registered Nurse (RN) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
