Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: Assist in the implementation of all aspects of Northeast Head Start’s education and child development services, under the direction of the Lead Teacher, for children and families served as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards and the 2007 Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act for the assigned Head Start.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist in implementing a program of comprehensive educational and child development services, including a curriculum that meets the program’s philosophy and the developmental needs of the children served at the assigned center.

Plan and implement activities, in coordination with the lead teacher, supporting the curriculum, home follow-up program, scheduling, learning environment, and supervision of all classroom activities.

Plan and implement classroom activities, in coordination with the lead teacher, ensuring activities supporting all developmental areas are provided daily.

Assist in providing a positive atmosphere for all parents, volunteers, and visitors, ensuring each person receives a proper greeting and assistance.

Assist in the completion of each child’s individualized education plan, including developmental screening, developmental assessment, and individual objectives, including support activities.

Assume responsibilities of lead teacher in his/her absence.

Assist in the completion of all required records.

Ensure toileting, health checks, and other daily health routines are completed for all children.

Share in the responsibility of preparing and cleaning up after activities.

Assist in the recruitment of volunteers.

Attend professional conferences, meetings, workshops, and any other events deemed beneficial, which may augment program and/or personal professional development skills necessary in maintaining the highest quality in educational services.

New hires: Complete six hours of orientation training within 90 days of employment and 12 additional child care training hours for a total of 18 hours during the first year of employment and acquire 18 hours of child care training hours annually thereafter, plus other training as outlined in the program’s policies and procedures.

Ensure the preservation of all private and confidential information of children, families, and staff.

Coordinate with the teacher to ensure the assimilation of services for children and families.

Complete and submit required administrative documentation, such as time sheets, when due.

Work in the capacity of a monitor or driver (if a valid CDL driver) when necessary.

Perform all other duties as designated by the Head Start Director or Early Childhood Services Coordinator to ensure program operations.
EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED

Must possess a Child Development Associate (CDA) or complete within one year from hire date.

Communication skills, both written and oral.
PREFERENCE GIVEN TO:

Parent of Head Start child, classroom aide, or regular volunteer.

Experience in Head Start or related child care field.
