Full job description

This position is designated as safety-sensitive. As such, a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening are mandatory. The incumbent will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the duration of employment.

Provides safe, reliable transportation for senior adults to and from the Senior Life Center, medical appointments, and community activities while ensuring exceptional customer service and passenger safety.

Operates City vehicles to provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for senior adults to and from their homes, appointments, local events, and activities.

Maintains a strong commitment to safety and security while performing all job duties.

Exercises sound judgment and safe driving practices when operating City vehicles.

Conducts pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment are safe, properly maintained, and in good working condition.

Assists senior adults in a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner.

Demonstrates sensitivity, patience, and compassion when serving older adults and individuals with disabilities.

Assists passengers with mobility devices in safely boarding and exiting the vehicle and properly secures mobility devices during transport.

Maintains the cleanliness and overall condition of assigned vehicles, including checking fluid levels and reporting maintenance needs.

Monitors the condition of assigned vehicles and coordinates routine maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs with the City's Vehicle Services Division to ensure vehicles remain safe, reliable, and in proper operating condition.

Performs light building and grounds maintenance as assigned.

Assists with the setup, breakdown, and cleanup of daily programs, activities, and special events at the Senior Life Center.

Provides assistance in facilitating the congregate meal service process.

Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines at all times to ensure privacy of client records and information.

Performs other related duties as required.

High School or G.E.D.

One year of experience operating a commercial vehicle preferred.

Insurance requires minimum age of 21.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Class C Driver's License and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

CDL not required but preferred.

CPR Certification desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrates extensive knowledge of operating vehicles, including pre-trip and post trip inspection of equipment.

Knowledge of the geography of the Gainesville and Hall County including major streets and landmarks.

Knowledge of safe driving techniques.

Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.

Ability to provide assistance in boarding and disembarking from vans.

Knowledge of building maintenance, construction and grounds keeping methods, equipment, and materials.

Must have mechanical aptitude.
