Ontic's Chatsworth, CA, site specializes in precision engineering, MRO, and new solutions for parts at risk of obsolescence. Our team is looking a Buyer III to join our team at Chatsworth, CA location. The Buyer III is responsible for executing procurement activities to support production and business requirements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role manages the end-to-end purchasing process, including supplier selection, purchase order placement, and order management to ensure timely delivery of materials. The Buyer III collaborates with internal stakeholders such as Planning, Operations, Quality, and Engineering to align on demand requirements, resolve material issues, and mitigate supply chain risks. This position also monitors supplier performance, supports cost and lead time improvements, and ensures compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Buyer III Main Responsibilities:

  • Send request for quotes to suppliers for pricing, delivery and inventory position.

  • Selects and awards direct or indirect material purchase orders for assigned products; negotiates and

institutes long-term pricing agreements as appropriate.

  • Performs cost/price analysis for competitive and non-competitive procurements; responsible for obtaining favorable price variances.

  • Assist in managing supplier schedules at PO creation to ensure alignment with production needs and delivery commitments.

  • Negotiates and institutes long-term pricing agreements as appropriate.

  • Identify potential supply chain risks and support mitigation actions to minimize disruptions to material flow.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Planning and various Value Streams to help prioritize and expedite critical materials.

  • Support compliance with applicable processes, contractual requirements, and regulatory standards where applicable.

  • Assist Delivery Assurance, when necessary, with coordination of recovery plans for late or at-risk materials to support on-time production.

  • Resolves invoice issues, implements engineering changes, and coordinates rework and return purchase orders.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on supplier performance, supply continuity, and material planning processes.

  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities, risks, and status updates.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Buyer, Procurement, or Supply Chain role within a manufacturing or aerospace environment.

  • Strong understanding of nondisclosure requirements and the handling of proprietary and sensitive information.

  • Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform cost and price analysis for both competitive and non-competitive procurement activities.

  • Strong knowledge or familiarity with FAR, DFARS, and related regulations.

  • Strong knowledge of material planning concepts, including lot sizing, production scheduling, and supply/demand alignment.

  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Visual, SAP, Oracle, etc.).

  • Excellent communication, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity with supplier replenishment programs and inventory management strategies.

  • Strong sense of urgency and accountability; comfortable managing multiple high-priority issues simultaneously.

Compensation Pay Range

$100,000 - $120,000/year, based on experience
