Shipping Supervisor

Position Summary
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for leading daily shipping operations during their assigned shift, ensuring outbound shipments, interfacility transfers, and staging activities are completed safely, accurately, and on time. This role provides direct leadership to shipping associates, forklift operators, pallet prep associates, and shipping clerks while maintaining compliance with company SOPs, inventory accuracy, and customer requirements. The Shipping Supervisor reports directly to the Assistant Shipping Manager.
Responsibilities
Operational Execution
Supervise all daily shipping activities including outbound orders, interfacility transfers, staging, and loading.
Ensure customer orders are picked, verified, wrapped, staged, and loaded accurately.
Assign daily work and labor based on shipping priorities.
Coordinate dock assignments and trailer movement.
Monitor workflow to ensure on-time shipment performance.
Verify all shipments meet customer and company requirements before departure.
Inventory & System Accuracy
Ensure RF scanner compliance for all shipping transactions.
Verify product, lot numbers, pallet quantities, and shipping documentation.
Maintain accurate system inventory through proper scanning procedures.
Investigate inventory discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions.
Perform daily location audits, cycle counts, and inventory verification.
Ensure proper completion of transfer orders between facilities.
Team Leadership
Direct and coach hourly shipping associates.
Conduct daily shift meetings and communicate expectations.
Monitor attendance, productivity, and employee performance.
Train new employees on SOPs and shipping processes.
Provide coaching and document performance issues when necessary.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
Ensure PPE is worn and safety procedures are followed.
Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready shipping area using 5S principles.
Conduct routine safety observations and address hazards immediately.
Ensure compliance with all customer, food safety, and company quality standards.
Communication
Communicate daily shipping status to the Assistant Shipping Manager.
Coordinate with Production, Inventory Control, Planning, Transportation, and Customer Service.
Escalate operational issues that could impact customer service.
Complete end-of-shift turnover with the incoming supervisor.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
3+ years of warehouse or shipping experience.
1–3 years of supervisory or team lead experience.
Experience with WMS/ERP systems and RF scanners.
Forklift experience preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
Work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and overtime when needed.
