Full job description

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Machining Tech IV, Press- 2nd Shift at our aerospace manufacturing facility in the Fullerton, CA.

This position sets up and operates or sets up for other operators all types and sizes of forming presses (60 to 700 ton).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assembles and adjusts die set by selecting proper tooling and tests to assure proper clearance.

  • Sets up according to work order and layouts to insure proper form configuration.

  • Uses precision measuring instruments and reads blueprints to check parts for conformance to specifications.

  • Operates machines to ensure proper functioning and releases to and instructs operators in procedures for producing parts in conformance with specifications.

  • Performs other related tasks in departments to which assigned such as: Assembling, drilling, deburring, sorting, counting, etching, stamping, recording of parts processed and housekeeping

  • Reads blueprints and has knowledge to use micrometers, calipers, comparators, thread gauges, depth micrometers and dial indicators as needed.

  • S.P.C. charting as required

  • Assist factory supervision and leaders in the training of machine operators.

  • Parts to be lifted and/or transported may weigh up to 30 lbs.

  • Keeps work area clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.

  • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience operating machinery

  • Previous experience with Aida, Maypress, National, Clearing

  • Ability to use inspection gages and instruments

  • Ability to read and understand manufacturers drawings, prints, catalogs, and other written or verbal instructions.

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is responsible to maintain fitness-for-duty while holding the above-described position and should be able to perform the essential tasks of the position in a safe, appropriate and effective manner. This refers to the physical, mental and emotional duties of the job.

  • Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies)

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

  • Reaching above and below, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending.

  • Need to be able to wear safety steel toe shoes and walk around at shop floor environment as needed.

  • Be able to remove dangling jewelry for shop floor assigned tasks, and wear hearing protection as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience in machinery operations in

  • High school diploma or GED
