Location: 81st Medical Group at Keesler

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, with a 60-minute lunch

Position Summary

Location: 81st Medical Group at Keesler

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, with a 60-minute lunch

Reports To:

• Associate Degree in Nursing or a related field such as Allied Health, Community Health, or Public Health; OR completion of Air Force, Army, or Navy Public Health Technical Training.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related medical, public health, community health, or nursing position; OR 4 years of prior military experience in a public health position.

• Proficient with standard office equipment and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, scheduling, and customer service skills.

• Knowledge of applicable public health guidance and standards, including CDC, ACIP, FDA, OSHA, CFR, and NIOSH requirements.

• Knowledge of proper PPE selection and use.

• Ability to work independently, organize multiple responsibilities, and maintain accurate records and reports.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform duties involving sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting/carrying items up to 35 pounds.

• Ability to travel throughout the medical treatment facility and military installation, including nearby locations as required.

Key Responsibilities

Epidemiology & Communicable Disease

• Conduct epidemiological investigations, patient interviews, and health education.

• Monitor infectious disease cases, contacts, and required follow-up actions.

• Assist with disease outbreak investigations and rabies control activities.

• Collect and compile epidemiological data.

Food Safety & Sanitation

• Conduct food safety and sanitation inspections in accordance with applicable requirements.

• Inspect food, containers, vehicles, and storage areas.

• Collect and ship samples for laboratory analysis.

• Document inspection findings and report deficiencies.

• Provide food safety and sanitation training as needed.

Vector-Borne Disease Prevention

• Assist with assessing vector-borne disease risks.

• Collect and identify vector species.

• Educate personnel and base populations on prevention and control measures.

Occupational & Preventive Health

• Conduct occupational health assessments and investigations.

• Perform duty location surveys and identify potential health concerns.

• Assist with corrective actions, training, and tracking.

• Perform Preventive Health Assessments (PHA) and review required medical information.

• Determine when patients require evaluation by a credentialed healthcare provider.

Deployment Health & Medical Surveillance

• Support pre- and post-deployment medical surveillance requirements.

• Assist with scheduling and tracking Deployment Health Assessments.

• Assist healthcare teams with applying medical standards related to occupational, worldwide, mobility, flying, and special duty requirements.

• Provide administrative support for medical profiles, waivers, retraining, and related programs.

Military Healthcare Systems

The Public Health Technician may utilize military healthcare systems and applications, including:

• MHS GENESIS and/or CHCS

• AHLTA

• ASIMS

• ESSENCE

• DOEHRS

• Applicable military reportable events and safety systems

Training

The Government will provide on-the-job training covering applicable protocols and policies during the first two weeks of employment. Following training, the Public Health Technician is expected to independently perform the duties of the position and meet established performance expectations.

Appropriate PPE will be provided. Uniforms and laboratory coats are not included.

Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break.
