Surveyor (Vernal, UT)
The Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture.
Summary
This position is responsible for mine survey control.
Key Responsibilities
The Key Responsibilities Include the following but others may be assigned.

Must be able to down load field data from GPS equipment to computer.
-
Build projects, manage files, and troubleshoot Dozer GPS Systems.
-
Prepare all data, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
-
Conduct survey operations to provide timely and accurate survey of daily operations
-
Cleans and provides general maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
-
Must be able and qualified to operate equipment and vehicles as required for the job. This includes having a valid driver’s license in order to operate the vehicles.

Assists with insuring that necessary supplies are available to perform survey work assignments.
Typical Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Qualification Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of the basic principles of land surveying
-
Knowledge of the means, methods, practices, and techniques used to operate GPS survey instruments.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-
Ability to read and interpret maps.
-
Ability to read and interpret mine engineering plans and specifications.
-
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
-
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, officials, and the public.
-
Ability to manage one's own time.
Relevant Experience
-
Five years of mining experience is preferred.

GPS machine control systems (Carlson CAD Software, CAT Terrain) is preferred
Required Certifications
-
A Drone Pilot License is required to conduct drone surveys.
-
If you don't already have one, you must be able to quickly take and pass the FAA Drone Pilot License exam within a reasonable amount of time from being hired into this position.

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Communicate information effectively to all personal on mine site.

Have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
COMPUTER SKILLS:

Must have basic computer skills.

Must have knowledge of and the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
MATHEMATICS ABILITY:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to use basic trigonometry, algebra, and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have strong interpersonal skills and be self-directed.

Accuracy in reporting results is a must.
