Hiring School Support Professionals in Arroyo Grande, CA and Surrounding Areas

(Behavior Technician/Paraprofessional)

Pay Rate:

  • Behavior Technician (BT): $25 per hour

  • Paraprofessional (Para): $19 - $21 per hour

Position Summary

The School Support Professional provides educational, behavioral, and personal support services to students with diverse learning, behavioral, developmental, and physical needs in a school setting. Depending on assignment and qualifications, individuals may serve as a Behavior Technician (BT) or Paraprofessional (Para), working under the supervision of special education staff, classroom teachers, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), and/or other designated school personnel.

This role is responsible for supporting student learning, reinforcing instructional activities, implementing behavior intervention strategies, and promoting student independence. The School Support Professional may also assist with personal care, mobility, therapeutic activities, and activities of daily living for students requiring additional support. Success in this position requires a commitment to student safety, collaboration with educational teams, and maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students in academic, behavioral, and life skills programs.

  • Assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and treatment plans as directed by supervising staff.

  • Reinforce classroom instruction and support students in completing assignments and educational activities.

  • Implement behavior management strategies and interventions designed to increase positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.

  • Collect and document student progress, behavioral data, and observations as required.

  • Assist students with social, communication, adaptive, and daily living skills.

  • Provide personal care assistance, including mobility support, feeding, toileting, and therapeutic exercises when required and authorized.

  • Monitor student safety and well-being throughout the school day and during school activities.

  • Communicate effectively with teachers, school staff, families, and related service providers regarding student needs and progress.

  • Participate in team meetings, training programs, and professional development opportunities.

  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all school district policies, state regulations, and professional standards.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

Experience

  • (Paraprofessional) Previous experience working with children or individuals with developmental, behavioral, or special needs is preferred.

  • (Behavior Technician) Two (2) years of pediatric, educational, behavioral health, or related experience preferred
