CBS² is currently recruiting for a: Design Engineer, Water/Wastewater reporting to the Wastewater Team Leader.

CBS² is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our team as a Design Engineer, Water/Wastewater.This is a full-time role based out of any of our five locations.

The Design Engineer, Water/Wastewater, will support a variety of municipal infrastructure projects, including wastewater, water, water resources, and related civil engineering work. This role will assist with the preparation of plans, specifications, reports, exhibits, and other project deliverables from early planning through design and construction support. The Design Engineer will work closely with project managers, technical staff, and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, efficient, and implementable solutions for our clients. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer to continue building technical depth while contributing to meaningful projects that support the communities we serve.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development and preparation of project plans, specifications, reports, exhibits, and supporting documentation.

  • Support municipal infrastructure projects involving wastewater, water, water resources, and related civil engineering improvements.

  • Prepare and organize planning-level documents, technical reports, summaries, and client-facing materials.

  • Develop figures, exhibits, maps, and other visuals to support reports, plans, and project presentations.

  • Assist with technical calculations, design elements, data review, background research, and comparative evaluations.

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, technicians, and other internal team members to support consistent progress and technical alignment.

  • Help synthesize technical inputs into clear, readable, and cohesive project documentation.

  • Incorporate review comments, project decisions, and direction from senior staff into updated deliverables.

  • Support preparation of agendas, meeting summaries, action items, schedules, and project documentation.

  • Assist with Bluebeam reviews, Civil 3D drafting/design work, and related technical production tasks.

  • Participate in occasional site visits, field reviews, client meetings, or project coordination meetings as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Relevant engineering experience, including internship, coursework, or project exposure.

  • Interest in municipal infrastructure, wastewater, water, water resources, or related civil engineering work.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D through coursework, internship experience, or professional use.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to review technical information and support clear, organized project documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, technical staff, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to travel occasionally for field visits, client meetings, or project needs.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Engineer-in-Training certification, or ability/desire to obtain.

  • Familiarity with Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Revit, and/or Bluebeam.

  • Internship or coursework experience related to municipal, civil, environmental, wastewater, water, or water resources projects.

  • Exposure to plan preparation, specifications, reports, cost estimates, or construction-related documentation.

  • Familiarity with Wisconsin and/or Minnesota municipal projects, agency standards, or permitting processes.

  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Ability to translate technical information into clear documentation for clients, communities, and decision-makers.
