Job Summary

The production supervisor position is responsible for supervising production employees in a manufacturing environment. This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions on designated shift.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure compliance/reporting requirements in GMP, Food Safety & Food Quality, SOP’s, HACCP, and Human Safety programs through the training, development, performance management and coaching of shift team members

  • Provides a strong floor presence and understanding of the processes adequate to set the example for others to follow

  • Handles day-to-day production documentation, ensures its accuracy and timely input into reporting systems

  • Provides training to shift personnel to make sure all employees have the tools necessary for optimum performance.

  • Champions all safety initiatives within the facility to ensure all safety goals and objectives are met, maintaining a safe work environment for all employees.

  • Instruct and train employees in safety, ensure duties are performed in accordance with safety regulations, while leading by example ensuring own actions are performed in accordance with safety regulations.

  • Follow coaching/corrective action procedures if employees engage in any unsafe acts

  • Ensures that all products produced meet or exceed customer specifications.

  • Handles routine issues with regards to employee relations

  • Conduct daily start of shift meetings to discuss safety topics, quality concerns, etc.

  • Must help maintain production equipment in good working condition (daily, weekly and monthly PM’s).

  • Ensures the production schedule is maintained with proper level of staffing.

  • Must help reduce the amount of scrap waste within the facility.

  • Help maintain scheduling of production to meet customer needs and maintain the lowest possible labor/overtime costs.

  • Help schedule and maintain appropriate manning level to meet the shifts production requirements.

  • Review and calculate employee timecards weekly.

  • Prepare daily production reports.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • A demonstrated ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions in the English and/or Spanish language.

  • 5 years previous supervisory experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

  • Must be able to multi task, work independently, and have strong demonstrated leadership capabilities

  • Demonstrated experience of being engaged at the floor level and “hands on” approach

Preferred Candidate Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred

  • Experience in the plastics industry a plus

  • Knowledge in SQF, GMP, HACCP, FSMA, plant production systems, sanitation, plant safety, quality systems and regulations.
