Full job description

As a Senior or Staff Homologation Engineer, you will gain exposure to every part of the vehicle and how it works. You will have the opportunity to be part of a team that is homologating a ground-up autonomous vehicle design. Achieving this goal requires continuous problem-solving and creativity to navigate the regulations across all relevant jurisdictions. This role will interact with all applicable regulations, and will serve as the subject matter expert for passive safety regulations.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify regulations applicable to purpose built autonomous vehicles, including FMVSS, EU, UNECE and other international statutes and regulations

  • Manage requirements in a formal requirements management tool

  • Lead the assessment of compliance and interpretation of the standards in support of engineering design and validation.

  • Work with the legal team to document interpretations

  • Collaborate with test engineers, external laboratories and technical services to confirm interpretations, agree test procedures, and execute compliance tests

  • Support on-site certification tests, this will require occasional travel

  • Draft compliance documentation including information documents and compliance reports

  • Monitor future regulatory changes and provide input to support Zoox advocacy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study

  • 8+ years of experience in vehicle homologation

  • Strong understanding of US and European regulations, particularly related to passive safety

  • Creativity to apply existing conventional regulations to novel vehicle designs

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop effective solutions efficiently

  • Strong understanding of vehicle system design and function

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
