In this role, you will define and execute long-term sourcing strategies for precision-machined parts, injection-molded plastics, die-cast metals, hinges, and other custom mechanical assemblies that are critical to the performance and manufacturability of next-generation devices. You will operate at the intersection of supply chain strategy, supplier engineering, and product development, shaping how Meta builds and scales its hardware supply base globally.

Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager, Custom Mechanicals Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the multi-year commodity strategy for custom mechanical components including injection-molded plastics, die-cast metals, precision machined parts, and mechanical assemblies across Meta's hardware product lines
  • Lead supplier identification, qualification, and development for custom mechanical commodities, establishing a resilient and competitive supply base capable of supporting high-volume consumer device manufacturing
  • Drive total cost of ownership analysis, should-cost modeling, and negotiation of long-term supply agreements with mechanical component suppliers
  • Partner with hardware engineering, industrial design, and manufacturing engineering teams during early-stage product development to influence design-for-manufacturability and design-for-cost decisions
  • Develop and execute dual-sourcing and risk mitigation strategies to ensure supply continuity for critical custom mechanical components across wearables and AR/VR device programs
  • Lead cross-functional business reviews with strategic suppliers, tracking performance against quality, delivery, cost, and capacity commitments
  • Establish and govern supplier capacity planning processes to align mechanical component supply with product ramp schedules and demand forecasts
  • Identify and drive cost reduction initiatives through value engineering, process optimization, and competitive resourcing across the mechanical commodity portfolio
  • Provide organizational leadership and mentorship to other sourcing professionals, setting best practices for commodity management and supplier engagement
  • Represent the mechanical sourcing function in executive-level program reviews, communicating supply chain risks, mitigation plans, and strategic recommendations to hardware leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, or supply chain management for custom mechanical components in a consumer electronics or hardware product environment
  • Experience leading end-to-end commodity strategy for precision mechanical components such as injection-molded plastics, die-cast metals, CNC-machined parts, or complex mechanical assemblies
  • Experience with should-cost modeling, supplier negotiation, and total cost of ownership analysis for custom mechanical commodities
  • Experience collaborating with hardware engineering and manufacturing teams on design-for-manufacturability and new product introduction programs
  • Experience managing global supplier relationships across Asia-Pacific manufacturing ecosystems, including supplier qualification, performance management, and capacity planning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with advanced manufacturing processes such as multi-shot molding, micro-precision machining, surface finishing, or thin-wall die casting as applied to consumer device components
  • Experience managing and developing sourcing teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management
  • Experience sourcing custom mechanical components for wearable devices, augmented reality, or virtual reality hardware products with high precision and aesthetic requirements
  • Track record of driving cross-functional alignment on make-versus-buy decisions and supplier consolidation strategies at an organizational level
  • Experience developing and scaling new mechanical suppliers from prototype through mass production in support of aggressive consumer hardware ramp schedules
