In addition to assisting leaders with administrative and regulatory functions, the Computed Tomography Technologist Lead performs diagnostic Computed Tomography and X-ray exams (based on department needs) under the direction of a radiologist. The Computed Tomography Technologist Lead provides compassionate direct patient care with an emphasis on maintaining organizational values and standards of behavior. The Computed Tomography Technologist Lead operates diagnostic CT and X-Ray (as appropriate) equipment to produce diagnostic images of designated portions of the body to meet the national standards for dose reduction and assists radiologists and/or physicians in the administration of contrast media and other medications as required. The Computed Tomography Technologist Lead is required to participate in an on-call rotation outside of business hours based on department needs and must be able to work some weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility.

  • Completes a variety of high quality, patient-centered diagnostic exams on all age ranges (neonatal – elderly) and in varying locations throughout the hospital, in CT and X-ray (based on department needs) in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.

  • Completes complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with the prescribed radiation safety procedures. Positions patients for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

  • Safely administers IV contrast using apprpriately sized catheter/needle to deliver proper/safe volume of contrast for specific vascular protocols using pressure injector followed by flushing agents to central venous catheters utilizing sterile technique.

  • Assesses and monitors patient for allergic reaction to contrast material.

  • Assists in the training and clinical instruction of students.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduation of Radiology program accredited through the American Registry of Radiologic Technology approved by IDPH required .

  • ARRT Advanced Level Certification in CT required .

  • B a c h e lor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Two years (2) of CT experience in a hospital or clinic.

  • One year (1) of supervisory experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current, unexpired Iowa Department of Public Health Permit to Practice as a Radiologic Technologist required .

  • Current Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Te chnologists (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist required .

  • Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) as a Computed Tomography Technologist required .

  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 30 days of hire.

  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons required .
