Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) – High School Setting
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to support students in a high school setting. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA will assist in delivering speech and language services to students with communication disorders and other disabilities. This position works collaboratively with speech therapists, special education staff, general education teachers, and support personnel to help students achieve their communication goals.

Key Responsibilities
-
Implement speech and language treatment plans developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
-
Provide direct support and instruction to students to develop:
-
Speech production skills
-
Language and communication skills
-
Pre-language development skills
-
Oral-motor skills
-
Vocalization and articulation abilities
-
Use of augmentative and assistive communication devices
-
Support students with speech and language disorders as well as other developmental or educational disabilities.
-
Maintain accurate treatment records, documentation, and progress data as directed by the supervising SLP.
-
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to support student success.
-
Assist with educational, clinical, and treatment-related activities within the scope of practice established by the supervising SLP and applicable regulations.
-
Adhere to all professional, ethical, federal, state, and local standards and requirements.
Required Education
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
-
Graduate of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) program with an Associate's Degree , OR
-
Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology , Communication Disorders , or a related program.
Required Certifications & Licensure
-
Current Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) certification and/or licensure in the state of practice.
-
Successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of supervised fieldwork experience (or state-approved clinical equivalent).
-
Current health clearance as required by state regulations or contract requirements.
-
TB screening, PPD, or chest X-ray (if applicable).
Experience Requirements
-
Minimum of 1 year of Speech-Language Pathology Assistant experience required.
-
Previous experience working in a school-based setting is preferred.
-
Experience supporting students with speech, language, and communication disorders is highly desirable.
-
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
Qualifications
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to follow treatment plans and directions from a supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
-
Understanding of educational and therapeutic practices related to speech and language services.
-
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
-
Commitment to professional standards, student success, and collaborative teamwork.
-
Must be at least 18 years of age.
-
Must meet all applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements.
Preferred Skills
-
Experience working with assistive and augmentative communication devices.
-
Familiarity with special education environments and classroom-based therapy models.
-
Ability to support students across a variety of learning and communication needs.
