Toolmaker Supervisor

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 (a) and (c). to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serve as the technical and administrative supervisor over the Machine Shop Branch, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to supervise the work of a Toolmaker which includes: programming, setting up and operating machines of the machinist trade, i.e., internal and external grinders, tool and cutter grinders, milling machines, lathes, shapers, and profile grinders; to include material selection and machining to very close tolerances. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires continuous standing on concrete floors, moderate physical effort in setting up machines, and considerable stooping, reaching, lifting and handling of tools and instruments. Working Conditions: Works indoors in a well-lighted and heated shop, subject to dust, dirt and fumes, and possible danger to eyes and skin from flying hot metal chips, to lungs from grinding dust, and to fingers and hands from moving and positioning machine attachments, stock metal, part, etc. Plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. Determine how many assignments can be done concurrently, which ones must be delayed, and the number and types of employees needed, considering skills, personnel, materials, and equipment available and required. Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; instructs subordinates in new procedures; and provides advice when problems arise. Adjust plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as feasible. Determines equipment, supplies, and maintenance required.
