Description

The Manager, Controls Integration is responsible for leading the on-site deployment, integration, and commissioning of automated equipment such as sorters, conveyor systems, and work cells. This role is highly execution-focused, ensuring that Industrial PCs (IPCs), PLCs, networks, and field devices are correctly provisioned, tested, and brought online. The engineer acts as the technical manager during installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning phases — partnering with contractors, integrators, and internal teams to ensure safe, reliable, and timely system startup.

Key job responsibilities

Deployment & Commissioning

  • Lead the on-site execution of commissioning plans for sorters, conveyors, and work cells.

  • Provision and configure Linux-based IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, and field devices according to project standards.

  • Define and execute I/O checkouts, network verification, and system bring-up activities

  • Develop and implement detailed testing and commissioning plans, including sequencing, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Serve as the first line of technical support for on-site issues across controls, networking, electrical, and mechanical domains.

  • Diagnose and resolve industrial networking problems (e.g., VLAN misconfigurations, IP conflicts, switch and device connectivity, fieldbus errors).

  • Drive root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.

  • Document issues, resolutions, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.

On-Site Leadership

  • Manage commissioning teams, contractors, and technicians during system deployment.

  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and operational requirements during installation and testing.

Integration & Handover

  • Validate equipment functionality against design specifications and operational requirements.

  • Support integration of equipment into warehouse control systems (WCS) and higher-level orchestration layers.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and refine commissioning and testing automation tools to reduce cycle time and improve repeatability of deployments.

  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, maintainability, and deployment efficiency.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading edge IT organization experience

  • 5+ years of managing system or software development teams experience

  • 7+ years of relevant hands-on systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, operating systems experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Experience in systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading-edge IT organization

  • Experience in managing system or software development teams

  • Experience (hands-on) in systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, and operating systems

  • Experience in agile software development methodology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)

  • Experience with Agile engineering practices (Kanban, continuous delivery, etc.)

  • Experience with AWS platforms, services, and design patterns

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
