Position Summary:Responsible for a variety of tasks from administrative work to patient and physician support tasks at physician offices, medical clinics and other facilities. Performs or assists in a variety of medical procedures and tests in the examination and treatment of patients , including but not limited to vital signs, procedures, various treatments, administering medications and performing venipuncture.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Obtains and records patient medical histories, vital signs, test results and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.

  • Performs daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance.

  • Prepares treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assists practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care.

  • Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.

  • Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.

  • Prepares and administers medications for patients as directed by physicians.

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.

  1. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Completion of a medical assistant program or one (1) year of medical assistant experience.

  • BLS Certification and/or Canadian equivalent

Preferred:

  • One (1) year of experience in a medical setting.

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.

  • Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems.
