Senior Electronics Engineer

About Chemify

Chemify is revolutionising chemistry. We are creating a future where the synthesis of previously unimaginable molecules, drugs, and materials is instantly accessible. By combining AI, robotics, and the world’s largest continually expanding database of chemical programs, we are accelerating chemical discovery to improve quality of life and extend the reach of humanity.

Location: Glasgow, UK (on-site)

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer to design the electronics that bring our robotic synthesis platform to life — the boards, sensing, and drive electronics behind the pumps, valves, motion systems, and instrumentation that physically carry out chemistry. You will own electronics design end to end, from schematic and PCB layout through bring-up and into production, working hand in hand with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers.

What sets this role apart is that your boards do not sit in a rack running someone else’s software — they actuate real hardware that makes molecules, and you will see them at work in the lab.

If owning electronics design on a real-world robotic platform sounds like the right shape of job for you, we’d love to welcome you to our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own electronics design end to end: requirements, schematic capture, PCB layout, bring-up, and design verification.

  • Design mixed-signal hardware — analog sensing, digital control, power, and motor/actuator drive — for instrument and robotics modules.

  • Partner closely with firmware engineers on interfaces, and with mechanical and manufacturing engineers on integration and design-for-manufacture.

  • Debug at the bench and in-system, from signal integrity to EMC, and drive issues to root cause.

  • Prepare designs for manufacture: BOMs, fabrication and assembly packages, test requirements, and supplier liaison.

  • Contribute to component selection, design reviews, and the team’s hardware standards.

About You

You are an electronics engineer who likes to own a board from blank schematic to working hardware on the bench. You are rigorous about the fundamentals — power, signals, EMC — and pragmatic about getting designs into production. You enjoy the interface between disciplines, where electronics meets firmware, mechanics, and the real world.

We expect you to bring:

  • 5+ years designing and shipping electronic hardware, including PCBs taken through to production.

  • Strong analog and digital design fundamentals, with mixed-signal experience.

  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g. Altium or similar).

  • Hands-on bring-up and debugging skills (oscilloscope, logic analyser, multimeter) and a methodical approach to root cause.

  • Experience designing for manufacture and working with contract manufacturers and suppliers.

  • Clear collaboration with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers.

Beneficial Skills

  • Motor/motion drive electronics, power-supply design, or precision sensing and instrumentation.

  • Familiarity with communication buses (I²C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet).

  • EMC and compliance experience, and design for regulatory testing.

  • Exposure to robotics, lab instrumentation, or other electromechanical systems.

  • Some firmware/embedded familiarity ([C/C++], [Python] for test).

Why Join Chemify?

Impact. The electronics you design are what physically move our platform — your boards are the bridge between code and chemistry.

Autonomy. You will own electronics design across defined platforms and shape how we build hardware.

Ambition. We are a Series B deep-tech company at the frontier of chemistry, robotics, and AI — with the resources and mandate to design electronics for a platform unlike anything else.
