Insight Global is seeking a Research Engineer – Electrical Systems for a top energy technology client. This candidate will support advanced R&D initiatives focused on electrification, renewable energy, microgrids, and next-generation power systems. The ideal candidate will leverage deep expertise in simulation, modeling, optimization, and hardware development to drive innovative solutions that improve grid reliability, sustainability, and energy efficiency while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Day-to-Day:
Conduct power system research, modeling, simulation, and testing
Analyze renewable, conventional, and electromechanical power systems
Develop algorithms for power system optimization, scheduling, and dispatch
Design and implement advanced electrical controls in hardware
Collaborate with product engineering and research teams on technical programs
Manage project execution, timelines, risks, and deliverables
Present research findings to business leaders and technical conferences

Skills and Requirements
PhD in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 1+ year of experience OR Master's degree with 4+ years of industry experience
Expertise in power system operation, simulation, analysis, dynamics, transients, protection, and stability
Understanding of grid energy management systems and optimization
Hands-on hardware design and power systems laboratory experience
Experience with PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, DigSilent, or similar modeling tools
Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills Power system optimization and generation dispatch experience
Python, C++, and Visual Studio experience
Signal processing knowledge
AI/ML applications within power systems
Established project management capabilities
