The Agronomy T echnician will be responsible for supporting the agronomy efforts of the Hawaii Research Center with primary focus on agronomic activities necessary to reliably produce high quality seed for the research organization.
The agronomy technician will be performing tasks in the Agronomy Department, including but not limited to, working with crop protection, land planning and preparation, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), regulatory and equipment operation.
This position is located on the “Garden Island ”, Kauai.
$1,500 SIGN ON BONUS!

What You'll Do:

Assistin scheduling,coordinationandoperation offarm andspraying equipment(such asSprayersand Tractors). Always ensure the proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and ensureproductlabel directions are followed.

Assistwith data entry in the Agronomy Databases
-
Assistwith printing and posting WPSrecords.
-
Assistwith IPM chemical inventorymanagement and tracking.

Assistwithspraying,chemigation,posting signs, cleaning equipment, replacing nozzles, etc.

Maintain all equipment in proper and safe workingcondition.

Makecertain chemicalsare appliedin accordance with chemical labels.

Maintain chemical inventory,an orderly pesticide storageroomand safety stations.

Assistwith the deployment of new equipment for IPMand agronomy.
-
Spraying fence lines and fallow areas.

Crop scouting

Provide input tosupervisorandassistwithshortand long termplanning.

Participate and complete personal development activities as part of a performance management and development plan.

Assistwith developing protocols.

Assistother groups withtasksincluding but not limited to; cover crop planting, mowing, crop destruction and volunteering, drip tape removal, hand weeding, UTV/backpack spray,netting activities, and pollination during busy season.

Track and enter data in databases for regulatory activities.

Miscellaneoustasks asassigned by supervisor.
What Skills You Need:
-
High School Diplomaor GED required (or willing and able to obtainGED within 12 monthsfromhiring).

2 to 4 years of tropical agriculture experience in IPM spray and farm equipment operation preferred.

Proficient in the use of computers with the ability toutilizeMicrosoft office products.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to read/interpret instructions and carry out tasks inabsenceof supervision.

Work well under pressure to meet deadlines.

Tolerance and ability to work inoutdoortropical agriculture setting.

Ability to communicate in English and work with others in a team setting and diverse cultural backgrounds and languages.

Valid driver’s license required and CDL preferred orwillingtoobtain.
-
Abilityto towtrailers(CMV).
-
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays during seasonal peaks and/or based on field needs.
-
Occasionally required to lift at least 20 to 40 lbs.
-
Experience with operating and assisting in drone operation is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $63,420.00 to $70,470.00.
This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
