HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Washington County Department of Public Works (DPW) is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. This is skilled work involving responsibility for the overhaul and repair of a variety of heavy-duty equipment. The work requires a thorough knowledge of the trade. General instructions are received regarding tasks to be performed, but considerable leeway is permitted in planning the details of each assignment. The work requires good motor skills, hand and eye coordination, manual dexterity, the ability to communicate and work well with others and is in good physical condition to commensurate with the duties of the position. Works independently. Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

A) Certificate of completion from an accredited Heavy Equipment/Diesel Equipment School;OR

B) Graduation from a vocational or technical program and one (1) year of experience performing heavy equipment or diesel repairs;OR

C) Possession of a high school diploma or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience performing heavy equipment or diesel repairs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :

Possession of appropriate driver’s license at time of application.

Possession of CDL B License within 6 months of appointment.

Possession of NYS Inspection and Heavy Inspection License within 6 months of appointment.

NOTE: The incumbent must furnish own hand tools and toolbox.

RATE OF PAY: $26.34 (2026 rate) per hour plus excellent benefits
