Full job description

Imagine being part of a team that’s redefining the future of mobility—where your ideas don’t just sit in a lab but power next-generation technology. At indie, we are developing cutting-edge semiconductors, photonics, and radar sensors and systems for automotive, industrial, and adjacent markets. Our innovations are at the heart of advanced intelligent sensing and user experience applications, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

If you're passionate about groundbreaking technology and want to make a real impact alongside a fast-paced team that thrives on creativity and collaboration, we’d love to have you on board!

As a global leader, indie's photonics team specializes in developing advanced optical systems and components that drive progress across various industries—from material processing, quantum technologies, LiDAR, navigation, sensing, and imaging, to augmented reality and medical applications.

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on full-time (100%) professional to join our Product Engineering team. The Product & Test Engineer is responsible for supporting the complete product lifecycle, from semiconductor device characterization through production testing and product qualification.

The successful candidate will work closely with R&D, Production Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain to improve product performance, manufacturing yield, reliability and manufacturing efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical and optical characterization of semiconductor light sources (SLEDs).
  • Support customer return (RMA) investigations by performing structured failure analysis to identify process, design or manufacturing root causes.
  • Plan and execute reliability and stress testing.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), product qualification and supplier qualification activities.
  • Execute Design of Experiments (DoE) for process optimization.
  • Maintain and improve automated production test platforms by developing and optimizing TestStand/LabVIEW software.
  • Build and maintain test fixtures and measurement systems.
  • Configure and maintain production test environments, software configurations and manufacturing databases.
  • Improve production throughput, repeatability and measurement accuracy.
  • Monitor manufacturing yield using statistical methods and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze manufacturing and test data to identify trends and process variations.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation in accordance with the company's ISO quality management system, including technical procedures, work instructions, engineering specifications and product documentation.
  • Support Supply Chain by performing incoming inspections and developing automated tools to improve inspection efficiency and process optimization.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, Production, Quality and Supply Chain teams to support product industrialization and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in physics, optics, semiconductor engineering, electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with National Instruments LabVIEW and TestStand environments is preferred.
  • Experience with programming in Python, working with SQL databases and using Git version control.
  • Experience using optical and electrical test equipment for characterization of optoelectronic devices.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) or other tools related to production performance and quality.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to troubleshoot complex automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve technically challenging problems.
  • Problem-solving skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; German is considered as an asset.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics, laser diodes, Superluminescent LEDs (SLEDs), and optical characterization techniques.
  • Reliability testing and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Previous experience in semiconductor, photonics or optoelectronic manufacturing is considered an asset.
