Manufacturing Supervisor

We are currently seeking a high caliber Manufacturing Supervisor for a long-term basis within our client’s team of experienced professionals. Based in Los Angeles, CA.

Job Requirements

Marketing Leadership

  • Grade raw veneer faces for color, figure, character, and defect, and make the calls that determine whether a job succeeds or gets remade.

  • Lay out, match, and splice faces to architectural specification — tight joints, correct sequence, proper orientation and balance.

  • Engineer face layouts that pull maximum usable yield out of material that is expensive, irreplaceable, and often impossible to source twice

  • Lead, train, schedule, and grow the veneer room crew. Build the bench.

  • Review incoming orders, select flitches, allocate material, and catch problems on paper before they become problems on the floor.

  • Partner daily with sales, purchasing, and the panel department on priorities, availability, and commitments.

  • Own the numbers that matter: yield, scrap, throughput, and first-pass quality.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business, Architecture, or a related field.

  • These are firm requirements. This is a specialist's job and we are hiring a specialist.

  • Raw wood veneer face grading. Deep hands-on experience reading flitches, evaluating figure and character, identifying defects, and grading against architectural specification.

  • Veneer splicing. Real production experience — joint preparation, match sequencing, running and troubleshooting splicing equipment.

  • Yield and material optimization. A demonstrated instinct for getting the most out of every bundle. This is the single clearest measure of success in this role.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish. Required. You will supervise, train, and deliver safety instruction to a Spanish-speaking production crew while communicating directly with English-speaking management, sales, and customers. Fluency in both is essential to doing this job

  • 12+ years of hands-on veneer manufacturing experience, including 3+ years leading or directing a crew.

Preferred:

  • Hardwood plywood face grading to HPVA / ANSI HP-1 standards.

  • Architectural blueprint match takeoffs — reading elevations and shop drawings to determine panel counts and sequencing.

  • Pre-engineering of plywood veneer faces for architectural work: sequence-matched sets, blueprint-matched panels, running, balance, and center match.

  • Command of domestic species (white oak, walnut, maple, cherry, ash, hickory) and exotics (sapele, anigre, makore, movingui, teak, eucalyptus, figured and burl material).

  • Familiarity with AWI/WI architectural woodwork standards.

  • Comfort with ERP or production tracking systems.
