  • Job Summary :

  • Performs general clerical duties by preparing, compiling and maintaining records on a nursing unit.

  • Education :

  • Position requires a high school diploma or GED or 0- 6 months equivalent combination of education and experience in related area.

  • Registration/Certification/Licensure :

  • None Specified

  • Experience :

  • 1-2 years related experience preferred.

  • Other Requirements :

  • Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements.

  • Successful completion of Unit Secretary Orientation

  • Answers phones, relays /dispatches messages to other staff &/or departments as appropriate.

  • Manages central desk area of nursing unit – directs staff, physicians and customers as needed.

  • Assists in answering patient call system and contacts appropriate staff person.

  • Maintains up-to date unit census.

  • Orders supplies under the direction of the unit director.

  • Maintains patient records, including preparing and compiling records, filing and copying as needed. Prepares admission charts and breaks down discharge charts in accordance with Medical Record protocol
