Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •New York State School District Administrator (SDA), School District Leader (SDL), or School Building Leader (SBL) certification. •Successful experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, assessment, and professional learning. •Demonstrated knowledge of effective PK–12 mathematics, science, technology, and STEM instruction and curriculum. •Demonstrated ability to lead improvement efforts, analyze multiple sources of data, facilitate adult learning, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. •Knowledge of culturally responsive and sustaining education practices, instructional technology, mathematics intervention, enrichment, and inclusive learning environments. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Advanced graduate study in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, assessment, or a related field. •District-level or building-level administrative experience with responsibility for curriculum, assessment, professional learning, or program implementation. •Experience supervising instructional staff and leading cross-functional or districtwide teams.

Description:

The Director of Curriculum, Assessment, and Professional Development – STEM provides districtwide leadership for PK–12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning within mathematics, science, technology, enrichment, and related interdisciplinary programs. The Director advances coherent, standards-aligned STEM programs; supports evidence-informed instructional improvement; and works collaboratively with school and district leaders to improve outcomes for every student.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Instructional Leadership

• Lead the development, implementation, review, and vertical alignment of PK–12 curriculum across mathematics, science, technology, and related interdisciplinary STEM programs.

• Ensure STEM curriculum and instructional practices align with New York State standards, district priorities, culturally responsive and sustaining education practices, and expectations for college and career readiness.

• Guide the selection, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of STEM instructional resources and programs.

• Partner with principals, instructional leaders, teachers, and specialists to strengthen core mathematics and science instruction, intervention, enrichment, and equitable access to rigorous learning experiences.

• Support purposeful instructional technology integration, innovation, problem solving, and interdisciplinary STEM learning.

Assessment and Continuous Improvement

• Provide leadership for a coherent district assessment system in mathematics, science, and STEM that includes universal screening, formative assessment, common assessments, progress monitoring, and state and local measures.

• Oversee STEM assessment administration, data quality, reporting, and the use of evidence to inform curriculum, instruction, intervention, enrichment, and resource allocation.

• Support school and teacher teams in analyzing student learning and instructional practice through collaborative inquiry and continuous improvement processes.

• Monitor STEM program effectiveness and student outcomes, identify trends and opportunity gaps, and recommend responsive actions.

Professional Learning and Staff Development

• Design, coordinate, and evaluate a comprehensive professional learning program aligned with district priorities, curriculum implementation, assessment literacy, and identified staff and student needs.

• Facilitate high-quality professional learning for teachers, leaders, instructional coaches, and specialists using research-informed adult learning practices.

• Coordinate new staff orientation, mentoring, induction, and other supports that build instructional capacity and promote professional growth.

• Collaborate with internal and external partners to secure expertise, resources, and learning opportunities that advance district goals.

Program and Team Leadership

• Facilitate the Numeracy Advisory Team and other STEM leadership structures to build shared ownership and coherent implementation.

• Provide leadership for district mathematics, science, technology, intervention, and enrichment initiatives.

• Supervise and support assigned instructional specialists, coaches, teachers, and STEM programs in accordance with district structures.

• Develop and monitor program goals, budgets, grants, resources, timelines, and implementation plans within assigned areas.

• Prepare and communicate recommendations, progress updates, and reports to district leaders, the Board of Education, staff, families, and community partners, as appropriate.

Leadership, Supervision, and Collaboration

• Collaborate with district and school leaders to align curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and student support systems.

• Conduct staff observations and evaluations as assigned and contribute to recruitment, selection, onboarding, development, and retention decisions.

• Build collaborative cultures that support productive dialogue, shared accountability, and consistent implementation across schools.

• Maintain current knowledge of educational research, state and federal requirements, and effective practices in curriculum, assessment, professional learning, and instructional leadership.

• Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the position and as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and/or Superintendent.
