The QC Laboratory Apprenticeship is a full-time opportunity to earn while you learn, this is an apprenticeship program with IBEC. This is a two year Level 6 course – (Higher Certificate in Science Laboratory Technician) and a continuation option to be qualified as a Laboratory analyst (Level 7 - Ordinary Bachelor of Science Degree). It consists of both industry training and academia study using both theory and practical elements. Tasks carried out in the Quality Control laboratory in Hovione are in accordance with the course.

responsibilities: Perform assigned analytical testing with accuracy, completeness and compliance with the established procedures and specifications as directed by QC manager/designee

  • Ensure compliance with GMP and EHS guidelines at all times

  • Monitor and maintain laboratory inventory

  • Supporting archiving of documentation

  • Perform basic routine instrument calibrations and maintenance checks

  • Plan and organise shipments ensuring appropriate coordination with other departments and the shipment company.

  • Ensure adherence to all current regulatory data integrity requirements.

  • Highlight any discrepancies, deviations or non-conformance’s in testing or work practices and support investigations as required

  • Provide assistance with laboratory audit preparation activities where required

On successful completion of the apprenticeship,the Laboratory Technician will:

  • Understand the principles of GMP and GDP

  • Understand the quality systems that are in place and their importance

  • Have the ability to work safely in the laboratory, maintaining housekeeping whilst following appropriate safety, environment and risk management systems

  • Understand the basic chemistry, pharmacopeia and microbiological techniques

  • Knowledge of the purchasing system for QC consumables

  • Knowledge of methods of receiving and logging samples into a QC laboratory

  • Understand the correct labelling of laboratory reagents and samples

  • Knowledge of methods involved in microbiology testing, raw material, in-process and finished product

  • Understand the importance of data integrity, by reference to ALCOA principles

  • Knowledge of out of specification investigations and other lab Investigation processes

  • Knowledge of calibrating laboratory equipment as required

  • Knowledge of reporting deficiencies in GMP and safety

  • Demonstrate the ability to operate laboratory instruments effectively and according to standard operating procedures

  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a safe manner within the laboratory

  • Handle materials and equipment correctly, paying due regard to safety and environmental protection regulations

  • Communicate effectively

  • Work and interact effectively within a team

  • Good technical writing skills

  • Work independently and take responsibility for initiating and completing tasks

We are looking to recruit a Candidate:

  • Minimum Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) with a pass in Maths and preferably one Science subject

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent understanding of English (verbal and written)
