Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to support large-scale data center programs through commissioning strategy, systems readiness planning, operational validation, turnover management, stakeholder coordination, and program leadership.
This individual will serve as the primary leader for commissioning-related planning and coordination activities, ensuring critical infrastructure systems are aligned with program milestones, testing requirements, operational objectives, and turnover readiness goals. The Commissioning Manager will partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Scheduling teams, Project Controls, Design Consultants, Equipment Vendors, Controls Teams, and Client Stakeholders throughout the program lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience supporting commissioning, mission-critical infrastructure, data centers, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor facilities, healthcare infrastructure, or other highly technical environments, including experience leading commissioning efforts on large-scale programs valued at $100M+.
This is an office-based position focused on planning, coordination, reporting, documentation management, commissioning leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Leadership
Lead commissioning strategy and planning efforts throughout the program lifecycle.
Serve as the primary point of coordination for commissioning-related activities across project stakeholders.
Develop and maintain commissioning execution plans, readiness strategies, testing roadmaps, and turnover initiatives.
Support alignment of commissioning milestones with overall program objectives and delivery requirements.
Provide leadership and direction to commissioning engineers, project engineers, consultants, vendors, and support teams.
Facilitate collaboration across project management, scheduling, procurement, engineering, controls, and client organizations.
Commissioning Planning & Readiness
Develop commissioning schedules, milestone trackers, readiness reports, and system acceptance plans.
Establish commissioning workflows and documentation requirements.
Coordinate system readiness reviews and turnover planning activities.
Monitor progress toward startup, testing, validation, commissioning, and turnover milestones.
Identify and escalate program risks that could impact operational readiness or milestone achievement.
Ensure commissioning plans align with critical project dependencies and program objectives.
Data Center Systems Integration
Provide commissioning leadership and coordination for critical infrastructure systems including:
Electrical distribution systems
Medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems
Switchgear
UPS systems
Generator systems
Transformers
Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
HVAC infrastructure
Chilled water systems
Cooling infrastructure
Controls systems
Fire alarm systems
Fire protection systems
Integrated monitoring platforms
Technology infrastructure systems
Coordinate stakeholders to ensure system integration requirements, testing prerequisites, and operational acceptance criteria are achieved.
Support development of system-level and integrated testing strategies.
Testing & Validation Management
Lead planning and coordination of startup, testing, balancing (TAB), functional testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and operational validation efforts.
Coordinate testing schedules and stakeholder participation requirements.
Monitor testing progress and track issue resolution efforts.
Review testing results, reports, and system acceptance documentation.
Support resolution of deficiencies, open items, and readiness constraints.
Ensure testing activities are aligned with turnover and operational readiness objectives.
Turnover & Operational Readiness
Lead turnover planning activities and readiness reviews.
Manage turnover milestones and documentation requirements.
Coordinate collection and review of turnover deliverables, including:
O&M manuals
Commissioning reports
System acceptance documentation
Equipment documentation
Operational readiness records
Partner with stakeholders to ensure all requirements for operational acceptance are achieved.
Track turnover readiness status and communicate completion risks to leadership teams.
Schedule & Project Controls Integration
Partner closely with Scheduling and Project Controls teams.
Ensure commissioning activities are properly integrated into master program schedules.
Review milestone sequencing, critical path activities, and commissioning dependencies.
Support forecasting and milestone confidence assessments.
Participate in schedule reviews and recovery planning discussions.
Identify schedule risks associated with testing, startup, commissioning, and turnover activities.
Provide commissioning expertise to support schedule development and milestone planning.
Risk Management & Issue Resolution
Lead identification and management of commissioning-related risks.
Develop mitigation strategies for operational readiness concerns and milestone impacts.
Facilitate issue resolution among vendors, consultants, project teams, and stakeholders.
Monitor open-item status and drive closure activities.
Escalate critical risks and constraints to project leadership as appropriate.
Reporting & Executive Communication
Prepare commissioning dashboards, readiness reports, executive summaries, milestone updates, and turnover status reports.
Present commissioning progress and readiness status to project leadership and stakeholders.
Communicate operational readiness risks, testing progress, issue resolution activities, and turnover forecasts.
Support executive decision-making through data-driven reporting and recommendations.
Maintain visibility into commissioning performance metrics and readiness milestones.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Mentor commissioning engineers, project engineers, and support personnel.
Establish commissioning best practices, standards, and reporting processes.
Promote consistency across commissioning documentation, readiness evaluations, and turnover planning activities.
Share lessons learned and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Foster collaboration across project teams and stakeholder groups.

Skills and Requirements
10+ years of experience supporting commissioning, startup, systems integration, operational readiness, project engineering, or mission-critical infrastructure programs.
Experience leading commissioning efforts for large-scale programs valued at $100M+.

Strong understanding of commissioning methodologies, startup planning, testing coordination, operational readiness, integrated systems testing, and turnover management.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary stakeholder teams.
Experience coordinating vendors, design teams, controls teams, engineering teams, and client stakeholders.
Strong knowledge of critical infrastructure systems including power, cooling, controls, and monitoring systems.
Experience reviewing commissioning plans, testing documentation, turnover packages, and readiness reports.
Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management platforms. Direct hyperscale or enterprise data center experience.
Experience supporting programs valued at $250M+.
Experience leading Integrated Systems Testing (IST) programs.
Familiarity with Tier III and Tier IV mission-critical environments.
Experience supporting owner turnover and operational acceptance processes.
Working knowledge of Primavera P6, Oracle Primavera Cloud, Microsoft Project, or project controls reporting platforms.
Experience with commissioning management platforms and turnover tracking systems.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Project Management, Construction Management, or related discipline.
Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), CxA, PMP, or similar industry certification.
