Job Description

The Housekeeping Supervisor provides supervision at the direction of management on site to coordinate activities of Medical Housekeepers and Floor Care Technicians engaged in facilities operations at Alaska Native Medical Center. They will coordinate key functions for their assigned team during the normal course of business across day, evening, or night shifts, ensuring that all hospital cleaning, infection prevention, and specialized floor care standards are strictly met.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a working lead, coordinating the daily activities of Medical Housekeepers and Floor Care Technicians engaged in cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining a medical facility/hospital setting.

  • Supervises medical housekeeping operations, ensuring staff strictly follow hospital protocols for daily patient room cleaning, terminal cleaning for discharged patients, infection prevention, high-touch surface disinfection, and the safe handling/transport of regulated medical waste and soiled linen.

  • Oversees specialized floor care operations, ensuring Floor Care Technicians properly perform sweeping, mopping, buffing, polishing, scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing of hard-surface floors, as well as vacuuming, spot cleaning, and extracting carpeted surfaces.

  • Ensures all staff properly use, maintain, and perform routine operational maintenance on cleaning tools, carts, and heavy floor care equipment per manufacturer specifications.

  • Enforces the proper use of PPE and safe handling procedures for hospital-grade disinfectants, harsh chemicals, floor strippers, and waxes.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; managing and approving timesheets.

  • Assists in ensuring a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees by complying with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.

  • Assists in monitoring employee productivity, conducting routine post-cleaning validation checks and quality assurance inspections, and providing suggestions for increased service or productivity.

  • Responsible for the orientation and ongoing training of employees regarding digital logs, checklists, and evolving hospital guidance.

  • Performs day-to-day assignments and hands-on operational duties (cleaning, floor care, spill response) in addition to lead duties when needed.

  • Works with customers and clinical departments to ensure satisfaction with quality assurance processes.

  • Participates in regular safety meetings and safety trainings.

  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.

  • Other related duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success may also be assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, or GED equivalent.

  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience OR three (3) years of janitorial/EVS experience that evidences a working knowledge of medical cleaning processes, infection prevention, floor care equipment, and heavy-duty cleaning agents.

  • Must have experience conducting inspections and quality assurance in a clinical or commercial setting.

  • A Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past 3 years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.

  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

  • Candidates will be screened for tuberculosis exposure and infection as shown by a negative PPD, negative IGRA, or in cases where the PPD or IGRA is positive, a baseline chest x-ray, is required; and

  • Candidates must be immune/vaccinated for Hepatitis B or has a signed declination for Hepatitis B, and either is immune from or has been immunized against:

  • (i) influenza (annually and proof of vaccination or signed declination on file)

  • (ii) rubella,

  • (iii) rubeolla,

  • (iv) mumps,

  • (v) varicella chicken pox

Background Requirement:

Level One : An individual is ineligible to work in any position that has Regular Contact With or Control over Children, Dependent Adults or Vulnerable Persons if the individual has been convicted of:

  • One or more felonies and/or two or more misdemeanors of Crimes Against Persons and/or Crimes of Violence.

  • Any Crime against a Child, Dependent Adult or Vulnerable person, regardless of its classification as a felony, misdemeanor, or other type of offense.

  • Any Sex Crime, regardless of its classification as a felony, misdemeanor, or other type of offense.

  • Murder.
