Job Description

The Process controls engineer Overview–

Is responsible for SCS safety Validations for the assembly automation equipment.

Taking direction from GM site controls lead and working with technical issues resolution by implementing common processes and procedures and driving continuous improvement.

Work is performed in a GM Tonawanda plant.

Work involves controls project management, knowledge with automation systems that interface with IT plant floor systems.

Job Responsibilities / Deliverables

  • Collaborates with IT team to, prioritize and document activities for on floor process equipment.

  • Coordinate with controls staff engineers and other SMEs for execution resource planning, trainings & development efforts

  • Provides technical input and guidance to vendors, system suppliers needing interface & support validation efforts.

  • Lead necessary hardware and software updates needed for architecture & applications

  • Support plants & execution teams with root cause identification for related issues

  • Maintain standard documentation, update and maintain training documents with support from other SMEs, & participate in user group meetings

  • Create & maintain change log sheets, revisions in PLC codes & HMI templates

  • Updates to leadership through project reviews, strategic development activities, special projects etc.

  • Lead development of upgrades in architecture, coordinate and track status

  • Coordinate with Quality, and ME center process experts for automation equipment integration

  • Coordinate with Network experts for analysis on Ethernet related issues

  • Share lessons and knowledge with team for developmental efforts

  • Self-motivated and ability to multitask, ability to provide technical direction to others face-to-face and remotely

  • Proven ability in project management skills

  • Multiple different ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team-based achievements

  • Elevated level of engineering and critical thinking skills

  • Elevated level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

  • Thorough knowledge of Automotive Manufacturing processes

  • Effective communication & inter-personal skills

  • Working Knowledge of plant floor systems including, Production Monitoring and Control, Andon Systems, Upload/Download and Compare, Throughput and Material Call

  • Prior Work Experience in tooling Systems with knowledge of Common Controls Hardware and Common

Controls Software Standards

  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing related IT systems

  • Plant job assignments 2-3 years (desirable)

  • Demonstrated maintenance of technical competency in relevant field


Compensation Starting At: $30/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
