Description

A growing company in the West Caldwell area is seeking an experienced Senior Collections Manager to lead and develop a high-performing commercial collections team. This Senior Collections Manager opportunity is great for someone looking to be a hands-on people leader who knows how to motivate a team, coach for performance, drive accountability, and improve collection results while handling complex and legally sensitive accounts. The ideal Senior Collections Manager will have a strong background in commercial collections and team management, with experience leading 5–10+ collection professionals. This Senior Collections Manager should be an effective communicator and coach who can balance day-to-day management with strategic oversight, develop employees, address performance issues, and build a culture of accountability and success.

Senior Collections Manager Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of 10+ commercial collection representatives, establishing clear expectations, goals, and performance standards.

  • Serve as a hands-on manager who is actively involved in coaching, mentoring, training, and developing team members.

  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, call reviews, and coaching sessions to improve negotiation skills, productivity, and recovery results.

  • Establish accountability for individual and team performance while recognizing and rewarding strong results.

  • Oversee daily collection activity, ensuring the team remains focused on priorities, productivity, and departmental goals.

  • Monitor KPIs including recovery rates, aging, delinquency, productivity, cash collections, and team performance, using data to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Handle escalated and complex accounts, providing guidance on difficult negotiations and recovery strategies.

  • Prepare and analyze cash forecasts based on payment trends, delinquency, outstanding receivables, and expected recoveries.

  • Ensure collection activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, including pre-judgment and post-judgment collections.

  • Partner with internal and external legal teams on complex recovery matters involving judgments, garnishments, enforcement actions, litigation, and other legal remedies.

  • Review collection calls and account activity to identify opportunities for coaching, improved negotiation techniques, and stronger customer interactions.

  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements, procedures, and best practices to increase productivity and collection performance.

  • Collaborate with senior management and other departments to resolve issues and continuously improve the overall collections operation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial collections experience, with significant experience managing and developing collection professionals.

  • Proven success managing teams of 5–10+, preferably 10 or more.

  • Strong people-management and coaching skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and hold employees accountable.

  • Demonstrated track record of improving collection results, team productivity, and recovery rates.

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Comfortable managing escalated, high-dollar, and legally sensitive accounts.

  • Experience with pre-judgment and post-judgment collections is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use collection metrics and reporting to drive decisions.

  • A hands-on leadership style with the confidence to make decisions, address performance issues, and lead from the front.
