Job Description
A Respiratory Therapist (RT) is a healthcare professional who assesses, treats, and manages patients with breathing difficulties caused by lung diseases or disorders, utilizing various methods like oxygen therapy, medication administration, mechanical ventilation, and patient education to improve their respiratory function; they work closely with physicians to develop treatment plans and monitor patient progress, often specializing in areas like critical care, pulmonary rehabilitation, or pediatric respiratory care.
Perm Placement: Respiratory Therapy
- Must Have Skills/Experience: RT on staff will be the backup for intubations – training will be provided onsite, the chosen RT will be the only RT on shift
- Preferred Skillset/Experience: None
- Type of Patients on Unit: primarily adults, ED patients, Surgical; rehab; imaging; heart & vascular; ortho; emergency
Qualifications
- Required Certifications: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License required, BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider
(HCP) - AHA approved required*, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Certification or EKG & Pharmacology Course required National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required and VA License.
*New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to the completion of orientation
