You will drive a bus on a set route, morning and afternoon, carrying students to and from school. Alongside driving, you are responsible for pre-trip inspections, keeping the vehicle within DOT requirements, checking the vehicle after every route, and managing student behavior safely.

No CDL? We help you get licensed. CDL Class B with school bus passenger and air brake endorsements is required to drive.

  • $17.14 an hour

  • Part-time. Typically about 22.5 hours a week, mornings and afternoons

  • Monday to Friday during the school day, home every night

  • Extra paid hours for field trips, sports and activity runs, offered on a rotational basis

  • Summer work is available but not mandatory

  • Supplemental Benefits available

  • Driving students in the Penns Manor School District

What the job involves

You will drive a bus on a set route, morning and afternoon, carrying students to and from school. Alongside driving, you are responsible for pre-trip inspections, keeping the vehicle within DOT requirements, checking the vehicle after every route, and managing student behavior safely.

Your day

Morning route typically around 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Afternoon route typically around 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is a split shift with a break in between.

Field trips, sports and activity runs are optional and assigned on a rotational basis. They are paid at a separate activity rate.

Already holding a CDL and looking for regular hours. Coming off the road and want to stay in driving without the travel. Or interested in the CDL training we provide.

What you need

  • CDL Class B with school bus passenger and air brake endorsements, or a willingness to complete our CDL training

  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

  • To be dependable about time and comfortable managing students

  • To pass an MVR, background check, clearances, a DOT physical and a drug screening

CDL training

The company pays for licensing and permit fees.

There is no training repayment agreement or employment commitment.

What happens after you apply

Driving students is a regulated job, so hiring takes longer than most part-time work.

  • An MVR review (You will receive a separate email to upload a picture of your driver’s license)

  • State and federal background checks. This is currently the longest step

  • Child abuse clearance

  • A DOT physical and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

  • Federal fingerprinting

  • Training and orientation before your first route, about 8 hours, completed while clearances are processing

Most candidates go from application to start in 2 to 2.5 weeks.
