Full job description
HFM BOCES has an opening for an eager, service-focused individual to work independently and in a team environment to ensure high standards of cleanliness on campus. This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. This full-time Second Shift position (2:30 -10:30pm) is located at the main campus, 2755 St. Hwy 67, Johnstown, NY. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is routine and repetitive manual work calling for the efficient and economical performance of building cleaning and occasional minor maintenance tasks. Cleaning tasks are performed according to a well-established procedure and maintenance tasks are performed under direct supervision or according to specific instructions. Supervision is received from a Custodian or other supervisor. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative but not exhaustive):
Sweeps and mops floors and stairs; Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment; Washes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks and other fixtures; Polishes furniture and metal furnishings; Empties waste baskets, collects and disposes if rubbish; May mow lawns, trim shrubs, rake leaves, remove snow and ice from walks and driveways and perform a variety of other grounds keeping tasks as assigned; Assists in the operation of oil, gas or coal-fired low-pressure heating systems, including firing and removing ashes; Delivers mail and packages; Places and removes traffic safety signs; Arranges chairs and tables and other equipment for special use of the building; Repairs window shades, replaces light bulbs, soap and towels; Paints rooms and equipment and assists in doing minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment; Willingness to perform routine cleaning and other manual tasks; Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; Ability to get along well with others; Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks; Mechanical aptitude; Thoroughness; Dependability.
Benefits: Full-Time Pay Rate = $35,163.10 annually. Competitive Health Insurance, Vacation and Retirement benefits through the New York State Retirement plan are included.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2 years building cleaning/janitorial experience preferred.
Residency Requirement
You must be a resident of Hamilton, Fulton or Montgomery County in order to be considered for this position.
