Summary:

The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a full time Plumbing Foreman. This position is not limited to performing the required licensed plumbing. The incumbent will also serve as a licensed level II Water Operator as required by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality; supporting, monitoring, and proving requisite testing of the five domestic wells and two distribution systems at the South Boise Correctional Complex. This position involves lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, climbing ladders, and bending and stooping. This is a working plumber position and subject to night and off-duty call-backs.

Responsibilities:

• Performs cost estimates and inspects piping systems in new and remodeled facilities.

• Advises project engineers and staff on code requirements and applications and interpretation of plans and specifications.

• Evaluates new methods and material for acceptability and adaptability to existing systems.

• Evaluates plans and specifications for compliance with plumbing codes Installs and repairs pipes, fixtures, fittings, valves, and related plumbing items Installs sewer lines, storm drains, new septic tanks, pipe, and related systems.

• Repairs leaks, broken pipes, garbage disposals, dishwashers, water heaters, boiler and steam controls, and pumps Installs gas lines.

• Plumbs commercial kitchen facilities and specialized hospital and industrial type plumbing installations.

• Hires, trains, and evaluates performance of inmate workers.

• Maintains custody of assigned inmates.

• Conducts searches for weapons, tools, and contraband.

• Provides protection during emergency fire and riot conditions.

• Provides into maintenance budget and cost projection.

• Writes plumbing and contract specifications Issues and evaluates bids from private contractors.

• Recommends and coordinates bid selections and writes purchase requests orders and maintains plumbing parts.

• Verifies issuance of plumbing permits and requests permits for department projects.

Minimum Qualifications: Your resume needs to clearly articulate how your skills, education and experience meet the qualifications below –

• Licensed as a journeyman plumber in accordance with Title 54, Chapter 26, Idaho Code.

• Good knowledge of the tools, equipment, and material used in the plumbing trade. Typically gained from at least 2 years of full-time work experience using and maintaining tools, equipment, and materials used in the pluming trade in a Residential and/or Commercial/Institutional setting.

• Good knowledge of safety practices associated with plumbing, national code applicable to plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair. Typically gained from a journey-level plumbing license AND at least 2 years of full-time work experience, which includes safety practices associate with plumbing National code applicable to plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair in a Residential and/or Commercial/Institution setting.

• Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by completion of a class or seminar (more than one day), specifically covering supervisory practices OR leadwork experience that required work direction, monitoring work, and making work assignments (such experience on a fill-in basis is not qualifying unless for a period of approximately three months or more).

• Experience using and maintaining tools and equipment associated with the plumbing trade. Typically gained by at least 2 years of residential or commercial/institution experience. Include your experience in residential or COMMERCIAL/INSTITUTIONAL facilities, and if your experience is in new construction and/or maintenance plumbing.

• Experience interpreting construction blueprints for plumbing installations; developing material and equipment lists and cost estimates for plumbing projects. Typically gained by at least six months of work experience interpreting construction blueprints for plumbing installations, developing material and equipment lists and cost estimates for plumbing projects.
