Full job description

SUMMARY:

The speech therapist completes patient assessments, establishes patient care plans, administers patient treatment in accordance with licensure and regulatory scope and standards, and established hospital policies, procedures, and protocols. Focus on maximizing the communicative and swallowing competence of each patient. Provide comprehensive diagnostic, consultative, and treatment services for patients with hearing, language, speech, and swallowing disorders. Adhere to the professional standards of the American Speech -Language - Hearing Association and NYS Office of Professions. Actively supports and participates in patient coverage efforts across all departments as necessary. Hours may vary, including weekend rotation for the inpatient department.

Job Title: Speech - Language Pathologist

Department: Physical Therapy

Location: Canton-Potsdam Hospital - 50 Leroy St, Potsdam, NY 13676

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Schedule: Day shift, 8-hr. shifts 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, weekend & holiday on-call rotation

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes speech and language therapy evaluations to establish treatment plans and home programs to restore function & prevent disability. Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Administers patient treatment plan involving application of speech and language therapy techniques and modalities as indicated.

  • Monitors response and progress to update and modify treatment plan as necessary to meet patient goals. Instructs patients and family members members/caregivers/ caregivers in speech and language therapy procedures and self-care techniques. Performs discharge planning and documentation to provide discharge instructions and maintain post-discharge continuity of care.

  • Completes modified barium swallow studies within the hospital setting.

  • Consults with physicians and other health care professionals regarding treatments, progress, patient needs, and outcomes.

  • Participates in self and others' education, training, and development, as applicable.

  • Additional documentation that is not performed during evaluation and treatment sessions.

  • Performs any other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders (may be MA, MS, Med)

  • One of the following: New York State licensure, -or- f or recent graduates: completion of at least 9 months supervised Clinical Fellowship year, -or- eligible to participate in supervised Clinical Fellowship year by a NYS licensed Speech Language Pathologist with a NYS Limited permit and followed by the NYS licensure examination and achievement of NYS license.

  • BLS (current or scheduled to complete within 90 days of hire)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 1 year of post-licensure practice as a Speech Therapist (CCC-SLP)

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

$68,500.00 - $97,760.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
