Summary
One position is located at the Whiteriver Service Unit in Whiteriver, Arizona. One position is located at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The Medical Staff Coordinator coordinates the credentialing process and works professionally and independently to ensure a reliable and organized credentialing process for the medical staff. Incumbent reports to the Clinical Director. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Duties

Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Initiates verification requests for medical licensure, board certification, medical school graduation, residency, post-graduate training and any other pertinent training. Tracks and maintains logs of medical staff membership, clinical privileges, and licensures/certifications to ensure that they do not expire. Attends Medical Staff Executive Committee Meetings and services as a technical advisor on credentialing and privileging. Serves as an advisor to the Clinical Director on matters in which the Medical Staff credentialing process can be carried out in the most effective, efficient manner. Works with the computerized credentialing software systems for overall medical staff credentialing. Coordinates the overall program/process for all visiting medical students, physician assistant students, nurse practitioner students, volunteers and resident rotations in accordance to policies. Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment. A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individual's identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service. Upon receipt of instructions, applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance. Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability. Financial Suitability Requirement: This position requires a review of the applicant's financial history as part of the personnel security and suitability determination. Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility, maintain good standing with creditors, and satisfy all legal financial obligations prior to applying. Individuals with substantial delinquent or unresolved financial obligations-including, but not limited to, delinquent federal or state tax liabilities, defaulted federal student loans, court-ordered fines or fees, or child support arrears-may be deemed unsuitable for employment with the Indian Health Service (IHS). Prior to the appointment, candidates must present two valid forms of identification. If one of the documents is a state-issued ID or driver's license, it must be REAL ID-compliant. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include using computerized credentialing software to manage provider applications within a healthcare facility; using software applications such as word processing and databases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval; evaluating medical staff files to determine appropriate response to incoming requests for verification of hospital affiliation and clinical privileges from other healthcare facilities and state licensing agencies. OR Completion of 1 full year of graduate (18 semester hours) level education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Completion of a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A) in a field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the positions. When combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level l in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include independently coordinating the credentialing and privileging process for a health care facility; using computerized credentialing software to manage provider applications within a healthcare facility; using software applications such as word processing and databases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval; evaluating medical staff files to determine appropriate response to incoming requests for verification of hospital affiliation and clinical privileges from other healthcare facilities and state licensing agencies; and independently researching reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct problems or issues. OR Completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years (36 semester hours) of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable. When combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within the closing date of the announcement.
