Job Duties:

Crop: Corn

Workers will perform a variety of tasks related to the harvesting, sorting, and cleaning of corn using both manual labor and mechanized equipment. All job duties will be performed on the farm. Primary duties include: Sorting and Quality Control: After being husked by machine, corn ears pass along a conveyor belt where workers are responsible for visually inspecting each ear. Workers must ensure that the corn is clean and free of husks or leaves, and that it matches the correct variety being processed at that time. Any ear that does not meet quality or variety standards must be removed and placed onto a separate conveyor belt designated for rejected product. This task requires continuous attention and focus during long work periods. Workstation Ergonomics: For comfort and efficiency, workers are provided with chairs or stools while stationed at the conveyor belt, as the sorting process involves extended periods of sitting and monitoring. Machine Operation & Monitoring: Assist in operating and monitoring harvest equipment such as shaking machines and rotary belts. Ensure machinery is functioning properly and report any issues. Tasks involve repetitive hand and arm movements. Worksite Cleaning: Maintain cleanliness of all work areas including conveyor lines, equipment zones, and field walkways. Workers are responsible for cleaning and organizing tools, removing plant material, empty husks, trash, and other debris. Proper disposal of rejected corn and waste is required. Farm Maintenance & Support Tasks: Additional duties may include washing harvested corn, removing weeds and debris from the field, assisting with loading/unloading, and performing other general farm tasks as directed. Workers are expected to maintain cleanliness in their workstations and surrounding areas at all times.

Duties may also include operating company vehicles within the field to transport potable water, sanitation units, tools, equipment, supplies, and personnel as needed to maintain continuous and efficient operations. Workers who possess a valid driver’s license and meet all applicable legal requirements, including holding a doctor’s certificate as required by law, may be asked to drive vehicles, including buses, for transporting workers, or agricultural equipment on company business. This task is voluntary, compensable, and not a mandatory job duty. Workers without a valid driver’s license or doctor’s certificate will still be fully eligible for employment and are not disqualified from any other job responsibilities outlined in this application. The employer can and will make alternative arrangements for the transportation of workers should the need arise.
