Description

Purchasing Manager

A client of ours is looking for a Purchasing Manager for a contract role to oversee strategic sourcing, procurement operations, and supplier relationships. This position will be responsible for ensuring a reliable supply of materials and packaging, negotiating favorable supplier agreements, driving cost-saving initiatives, and supporting business growth through effective procurement strategies. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with Operations, Finance, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Development teams to maintain supply continuity, improve efficiencies, support new product launches, and identify opportunities for process and cost optimization. This role also provides leadership to procurement personnel while promoting strong vendor partnerships and continuous improvement across the purchasing function.

Responsibilities of Purchasing Manager

  • Develop and enhance purchasing policies, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and control costs.

  • Source, evaluate, and qualify suppliers through operational, financial, and quality assessments.

  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while conducting regular vendor reviews and site visits.

  • Lead negotiations for pricing, contracts, confidentiality agreements, and long-term supplier commitments.

  • Create sourcing strategies that support production demands, growth initiatives, and new product introductions.

  • Manage supplier performance through KPIs, scorecards, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support inventory planning and forecasting activities to ensure product availability while minimizing excess inventory.

  • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations teams to resolve shortages, disruptions, and procurement challenges.

  • Monitor market conditions, commodity trends, and supplier pricing to identify savings opportunities.

  • Establish budgetary cost projections and provide procurement insights to leadership.

  • Maintain accurate supplier, material, and pricing information within ERP systems.

  • Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure suppliers meet company and industry requirements.

  • Support packaging and material innovation initiatives that improve product quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

  • Prepare procurement reports, cost analyses, and performance metrics for leadership review.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop purchasing team members while fostering a collaborative work environment.

  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications of Purchasing Manager

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement, Operations Management, or a related field.

  • 7+years of purchasing, sourcing, or procurement experience.

  • Prior experience within manufacturing, food production, consumer products, or a related industry preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing, supplier management, contract negotiation, and procurement best practices.

  • Experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating complex agreements.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems, purchasing software, and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to analyze market trends, pricing structures, and supply chain risks.

  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing procurement teams.

  • Ability to travel as needed for supplier meetings, audits, and industry events.

  • Bilingual French language skills are a plus.
