Summary of Job Purpose:

  • To perform and deliver patient care activities and related non-professional services for assigned hospital patients as directed by registered professional nurses or licensed practical nurses. Population served based on scope of services in the department.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: High School graduate or equivalency

  • License: BLS within 30 days of hire.

  • Experience: Nursing home or acute care experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Provides daily physical and emotional care to patients; i.e. bathing, toileting, feeding, ambulating, etc.

  • Answers call lights in timely fashion

  • Assists licensed personnel as directed.

  • Accuracy in obtaining vs., ht, wt, i/o, and other procedures as per competency.

  • Maintains a safe and clean environment, utilizing appropriate infection control techniques. (patient room, utility room, unit)

  • Recognizes when to seek help from licensed personnel, i.e., .changes in patient condition

  • Transports patients as needed.

  • Provides input to the interdisciplinary health care team.

  • Acts as a preceptor to all new Nurse Assistants and orientee Nurse Assistants.

  • Demonstrates use of appropriate body mechanics.

  • Displays analytical and basic problem solving skills. Communicates problems to manager as appropriate.

  • Follows all time and attendance policies.

  • Attends educational programs provided by the Hospital or those which are outside the Hospital that are related to job responsibilities.

  • Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
