Full job description

Position Summary: Inspects, tests machined parts, fixtures, and tools for conformance to specifications, such as dimensions, tolerances, and hardness, applying knowledge of shop mathematics, machining and testing procedures using precision measuring instruments, testing equipment, hand tools, programs, and uses CMM machine.

Essential Functions

  • Programs and uses coordinate measuring machine for inspection and recordkeeping.

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, customer specifications including quality requirements to inspect parts.

  • Computes angles, radii, and other unspecified dimensions of work, using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

  • Measures angular dimensions, radii, contours, clearance, thread lead, and other specifications, using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometer, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauge, level protractors, optical comparators, and CMM machine.

  • Tests parts for hardness using hardness testing equipment.

  • Inspects, adjusts, and verifies accuracy of gauges and measuring instruments for conformance to quality procedures.

  • Examines defective parts to determine cause of defect and initiates corrective actions.

  • Measures surface finish of part using profilometer.

  • Inspects first run parts and assemblies.

  • Compare purchase order requirements to the supplier certifications using customer prints, parts list, customer specifications and any other additional information that might be listed on the purchase order to ensure incoming material certifications are correct per customer requirements.

  • Writes reports regarding inspection and testing results.

  • Inspects parts for flaws using dyepenetrant method.

  • Communicates with supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.

  • Complies with established policy, safety standards, and quality procedures to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction

Minimum Requirements

Training and Experience:

  • High school or equivalent and between 4 and 10 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship..

Physical Demands: The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to the floor

  • exert at a minimum 50 pounds of force occasionally

  • lift up to 75 pounds occasionally

  • weight, force or shape of object may require the use of overhead crane or lifting assist

Working Conditions: The employee is subject to an industrial worksite including but not limited to:

  • noise from operating machines

  • moving equipment or moving machine parts

  • objects that may have sharp edges or burrs

  • machine shop related chemicals that may require restricted handling and proper use of PPE
