About

The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving Boulder Scientific's environmental compliance programs to support safe and sustainable manufacturing operations. This position performs complex environmental data analysis and management, leads technical environmental projects, and supports day-to-day compliance activities across multiple environmental media.

The Environmental Compliance Specialist provides technical expertise for multimedia environmental compliance programs at Boulder Scientific's Mead and Longmont facilities, including air quality, hazardous waste, stormwater, wastewater, and other environmental programs within an advanced chemical manufacturing environment. This position works collaboratively with operations, engineering, maintenance, laboratory, and management teams to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, support sustainability initiatives, and drive continuous improvement in environmental performance.

This is a full-time, day shift position based in Mead, Colorado, with regular travel to the Longmont facility.

Essential Functions

• Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate environmental reports in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, permit conditions, and company requirements.

• Manage air compliance programs, including emissions calculations, emissions inventories, permit compliance, Operating and Maintenance (O&M) Plans, and regulatory reporting.

• Coordinate environmental permitting activities, including preparing permit applications and renewals, monitoring permit requirements, and maintaining compliance with air, water, and other environmental permits.

• Administer stormwater compliance programs by coordinating sampling activities, evaluating analytical data, preparing Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), and maintaining the Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP).

• Coordinate environmental sampling activities, interpret analytical results, and evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements and permit conditions.

• Support hazardous waste compliance activities, including waste characterization, waste profiling, waste shipments, and preparation of required regulatory documentation.

• Conduct routine environmental inspections and compliance audits; document findings, recommend corrective actions and Best Management Practices (BMPs), and track actions through completion.

• Participate in environmental incident and spill investigations by conducting root cause analyses and developing effective corrective and preventive actions.

• Support regulatory inspections, agency inquiries, internal audits, and third-party compliance assessments.

• Monitor and interpret environmental laws and regulations, assess operational impacts, and provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders regarding compliance obligations.

• Support capital projects, facility modifications, and new manufacturing processes by evaluating environmental impacts and ensuring regulatory compliance.

• Develop, implement, and maintain environmental policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.

• Develop, monitor, analyze, and communicate environmental performance metrics and sustainability initiatives.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve compliance objectives while supporting operational excellence, continuous improvement, and environmental stewardship.

• Identify opportunities to improve environmental compliance programs, reporting processes, operational efficiency, and sustainability performance.

• Follow all company safety policies, environmental procedures, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe working environment.

• Properly wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.

• Perform other environmental compliance duties and special projects as assigned.

• Complete and maintain all required environmental regulatory training, certifications, and professional development activities necessary to support compliance and safe work practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting multimedia environmental compliance programs within the chemical manufacturing industry or a similarly regulated industrial environment.

• Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations, including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements, and Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials regulations.

• Demonstrated experience managing air compliance programs, including emissions calculations, emissions inventories, permit compliance, and regulatory reporting.

• Experience administering stormwater compliance programs, including sampling activities, Stormwater Management Plans (SWMPs), and preparation of Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs).

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical and regulatory information.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.

• Must be able to successfully complete any required post-offer, job-related evaluations consistent with business necessity and applicable law.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting hazardous waste compliance programs, including waste characterization, profiling, storage, shipment coordination, and regulatory documentation.

• Experience preparing Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Biennial Hazardous Waste Reports, or similar environmental regulatory submissions.

• Experience supporting wastewater compliance programs and industrial discharge permitting.

• Experience supporting environmental permitting for manufacturing operations, including permit applications and renewals.

• Experience conducting environmental audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance assessments.

• Experience performing environmental data analysis, developing compliance metrics, and supporting sustainability initiatives.

• Experience supporting capital projects and process changes through environmental review and regulatory compliance evaluations.

• Strong technical writing skills, including preparation of regulatory reports, procedures, and environmental documentation.

• Experience working in a collaborative chemical manufacturing or industrial production environment.

• Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification

Work Environment

• Primarily office and manufacturing facility-based work with routine exposure to chemical manufacturing operations, laboratories, warehouses, and outdoor environmental conditions.

• Regular work within manufacturing, storage, laboratory, and utility areas requiring adherence to environmental, health, and safety procedures.

• Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, gloves, safety footwear, hard hats, hearing protection, flame-resistant clothing, and other required safety equipment.

• Regular standing, walking, computer use, field inspections, and environmental sampling activities.

• Regular lifting and moving of materials up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting of materials up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting of materials up to 50 pounds with assistance.

• Regular travel between Boulder Scientific's Mead and Longmont facilities using a personal vehicle.

• Work requires adherence to environmental regulations, hazardous material handling requirements, laboratory and manufacturing safety procedures, and company environmental policies.

Pay

• Salary Range : $85,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually, plus participation in the Company Bonus Plan
