Job Summary:

To provide professional nursing care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, to collaborate with the physician's medical plan, and to execute the objectives and the policies of the hospital. To assist the identified surgical specialty service

Accountabilities :

    1. Provides nursing care in a manner that promotes quality and patient safety
  • a. Provides nursing duties as outlined in the OR nurse job description (job code 1105)

  • b· Prioritizes work during busy and emergent situations

  • c· Assists associates in managing workflow and fostering a sense of team

  • d· Remains flexible with schedule to ensure proper staffing coverage and completion of tasks.

  • e· Competent to scrub and circulate various cases not just specialty.

  • f· Accepts other duties as assigned.

    1. Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality initiatives and goals.
  • a. Attends and participates in meetings according to department standards.

  • b. Participates as a team member or in workgroups on department, hospital and/or evidence-based care quality initiatives.

  • c. Assist surgical service leadership with ensuring quality and compliance.

  • d. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and contributes to budget process.

  • e. Participates in the capital budgeting process for specialty area

    1. Responsible for overseeing the daily work performed by the associates in the identified specialty
  • a. Utilizes effective leadership skills to direct others.

  • b. Serves as a mentor to Associates

  • c. Assist the Surgical Service educator with onboarding and training of new associates and ongoing competency of Associates

  • d. Communicates with Associates and surgeons’ issues related to specialty area.

  • e. Services as a resource to surgeons and staff for equipment and procedures

    1. Maintains efficient operation of the identified specialty section.
  • a. Coordinates with vendors and Materials Management associates:

  • · The utilization/delivery of specialty equipment

  • · Repairs and replacements of specialty equipment

  • · Backorders

  • · Product trials

  • · Ordering stocked items to maintain par levels

  • b. Develops and updates preference cards as needed

  • c. Works with Business analyst to ensure that charges and procedure codes are up to date for supplies/equipment

  • d. Ensures that rooms have necessary supplies and equipment

  • e. Coordinates with sterile process needs for the rooms not limited to trays and peel pack items

  • f. Ensures that storage area for specialty is organized and properly stocked

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Qualifications:

  • BSN Required

  • RN, Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

  • At least 2 year of OR experience; scrub and circulating required

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:

  • BLS required

  • Current licensure in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of State Bureau of Occupational and Professional Affairs
