Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in the care of animals; the general care of crops, shrubs, or plants; or farm-related equipment and machinery operation; OR

Six semester hours in an agricultural field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

As a Research Farm Assistant 2, you'll help create a positive first impression for every person who walks through our doors. In this role, you will:

  • Cares for animals, transporting animals, administering medication, checking health. Operates, cleans, and makes adjustments and repairs to related equipment. (30%)

  • Operates complex farm machinery to perform standard farming tasks along with exacting field production techniques, i.e. chemical application, setting up beds, plot, harvesting, etc. Operates, cleans, and makes adjustments and repairs to related equipment. Learns to layout research parts. (30%)

  • Maintains grounds, pastures and other places around the station. May operate equipment such as tractors and mowers to perform basic tasks associated with care of animals and facilities. Assists with monitoring fencing. (20%)

  • May perform comparable farming tasks in other agricultural research areas such as horticulture, forestry, aquaculture, agricultural engineering, etc. May perform maintenance tasks involving a variety of trades. (15%)

  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Position-Specific Details:

  • Appointment Type: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

  • Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday. Some nights and weekends may be needed.

  • Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Location: Bob R Jones Idlewild Research Station, Clinton, La.

  • This position is not eligible for remote employment.
