The Mother-Baby Unit (MBU) is a 24-bed postpartum unit providing couplet care for mothers and newborns, as well as low-risk antepartum patients. Our MBU nursing staff, obstetrical hospitalists, and neonatologists offer 24-hour, family-centered care.
Lactation services are provided by our board certified lactation consultants and supported by our nurses who have extensive breastfeeding training . Mothers at risk for postpartum hypertensive complications are counseled and enrolled in our post-discharge surveillance program, Heart Safe Motherhood.
Newborns are evaluated daily by pediatricians or neonatologists, and can be taken to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) should further evaluation be needed or complications arise. Newborn care procedures include hearing screens, evaluation and management of hyperbilirubinemia, car seat testing, screening for critical congenital heart defects, and metabolic screening. Patient education is central to postpartum care and address topics such as newborn care, maternal care and recognition of early warning signs of possible postpartum complications. Collaboration with Princeton Health’s Community Wellness services is also initiated as needed.
Schedule Requirements:

You will be required to work two night shifts per week, 7pm-7am.

You will also be required to work every third weekend and every third holiday.

Weekend night shifts within Mother Baby are considered Friday night and Saturday night.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:

All of our nurses and providers are trained in neonatal and obstetrical emergency response.

In addition to routine care, nurses provide other clinical services such as insertion and care of peripheral IV lines, administration of blood and blood products, urinary catheterization, evaluation for postpartum depression risk factors and support, and pain management. Diagnostic services include bladder scanning, EKGs, ultrasound studies, external fetal monitoring and non-stress tests (for antepartum patients), x-rays, and laboratory tests.

What We Require for this Role:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required or in pursuit of.
Related Work Experience
- Greater than 15 months of NICU professional nursing experience required.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT

Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Active NJ RN license required.

National Nursing Certification preferred.

Salary Range:
$49.96 - $68.99/Hourly
